When you bring your child for baptism it is important that you think very carefully about godparents. A godparent tends to be an individual chosen by the parents to take an interest in the child’s upbringing and personal development
Godparents are among the most important people at a christening, who should be prepared to make important promises that they will keep for many years to come.
Choose godparents that will spend quality time with your child.
Godparents should have been baptised themselves. They promise to teach your child the Christian faith and to set an example of what it means to be a practicing Christian in the world today.
Traditionally a child has three godparents, two of which are the same sex as the child, although this can be flexible.
To be a godparent isn’t something that should be undertaken lightly. It is a great honour!
